Tariff-ic! Concerning posting to the USA.

Updated: 1 day ago

Wonderful news! Not.

So seems our hands are forced as are millions of others' in this whole ordeal. As SCC is a UK company and as the USA has decided to blast the entire planet with tariffs we have at the moment actually got off quite lightly in comparison.

That said, the situation is unfortunate to say the least. Rather than writing off USA exports the inevitable has happened and postage and packaging rates to the US have had to be increased, and by quite a lot.

Most items posted out are usually sent by Royal Mail, however, due to the 'Suspension of the de minimis exemption' continuing to do so will apparently incur a flat fee of $80-200 (you did indeed read that correctly) on items that are even only £1 or so these will now need to be sent by couriers such as Evri (Formerly Hermes) as a better option until at least January or thereabouts.

Doing so it seems there will be the cost of post and packaging as normal, and an additional 10% (currently UK Tariff rate) on the cost of the item as DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) and an additional 'Brokerage Fee' of approximately $10-15 as a flat rate on top. This may mean the charges are paid here within the amount sent or they may be left to be paid at your end although currently this is less clear.

It goes without saying this is utter nonsense as all it does is hurt buyers and sellers alike, and who benefits? Those at the 'top' as usual no doubt.

You will see changes at the checkout for the postage and packaging rates to cover this, 3 set for the USA depending how much is ordered. Rates are subject to change at any time (hopefully downward) but time is needed and posts outward made to accurately hone things as these changes foisted upon us all need a certain amount of time to fully comprehend and manage optimally. As initial estimates you're likely looking at around £30-35 minimum.

The official tariff changes are coming into play on the 29th of August 2025 although I do not know if items currently circulating in the postal systems will be effected or not.

Although we are still figuring out the best course of action, for now we are going to continue to offer USA exports but it must be made clear: Any unexpected Tariffs, Fees, Taxes etc that may be required will be your responsibility. We do not yet know with certainty how everything is supposed to play out or whether they can be pre-paid here with a higher postage and packaging rate etc so for now just keep the above in mind.

Exports may have to be temporarily put on hold in the near future but we'll let you know as we do.
